Vocabulary:
- The Language Guide: Clearly spoken German audio accompanies pictures and words to help you learn a basic vocabulary.
- Culturally Authentic Pictoral Lexicon: Photos taken in the German-speaking countries with the English and German word, organized into categories such as Food & Drink, Transportation, City Life, House & Home, etc. Use for a visual reenforcement while studying vocab lists.
Interactive Online Courses
- Deutsch Interaktiv- a free, multimedia online course offered by Deutsche Welle. It starts at a basic level and continues to more advanced stages.
- Wieso nicht? – This free online course combines listening portions with text, following the story of Andreas, a journalism student in Germany.
General Grammar Resources:
- Grammatical Terms: a searchable glossary
- Canoo: the ultimate grammar tool. Available in German and English.
- Nancy Thuleen: This longtime teacher offers a well-organized site for students of German in the first through the fourth semester. Good for grammar and vocabulary, but her textbook is Vorsprung, not Deutsche Heute. Nevertheless, much of the material is the same.
- University of Michigan: The folks at U of M have put together a great webpage for their own students, and there’s no reason why you can’t benefit from that. Check it out.
- University of Exeter: Another well-organized site for beginner students of German.
